Wellbeing
ST ANNE'S PARK ORCHARDS
Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) where children are taught the knowledge, attitudes, and skills necessary to understand and manage emotions, set and achieve positive goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain positive relationships, and make responsible decisions.
The Benefits of SEL Curriculum
At St Anne’s, we recognise the profound impact of SEL on the overall wellbeing and success of our students. Here are some of the key benefits of integrating SEL into our curriculum:
-
Enhanced Academic Performance: Research has shown that students who participate in SEL programs demonstrate improved academic performance, including higher grades and standardized test scores.
-
Improved Social Skills: SEL equips students with the skills to communicate effectively, resolve conflicts constructively, and collaborate with their peers, fostering a positive and inclusive school culture.
-
Emotional Regulation: By learning to recognise and manage their emotions, students develop resilience and coping strategies to navigate stress, anxiety, and other challenges both inside and outside the classroom.
-
Empathy and Compassion: SEL fosters empathy and compassion towards others, promoting a culture of kindness, respect, and understanding among students and staff.
-
Positive Relationships: SEL helps students cultivate meaningful relationships with their peers, teachers, and family members, contributing to a sense of belonging and connectedness within the school community.
Our Approach to SEL at St Anne’s
At St Anne’s, SEL is integrated into every aspect of our school environment, from our classroom instruction to our extracurricular activities. Through explicit SEL lessons, collaborative projects, and community service initiatives, we empower students to become confident, compassionate, and responsible individuals who are prepared to thrive in the world they live in.
SRC
Each class has two children who are nominated as the Student Representative Council members each semester. The SRC meet with the school Principal offering suggestions for school improvement. They also develop some fun club small group and whole school activities that enrich student experiences at St Anne’s.
Buddy Program
St. Anne’s has a buddy program for Foundation children. The teachers will partner your child with an older student (Year 6). This is to help your child have a welcoming experience from the very beginning.
The buddy system also helps older children learn to take on responsibility. The younger children know that they have a fellow student they can go to for help.
Buddy systems help your child make friends and create a sense of belonging within the school community.

Cyber Safety
In a world where technology permeates every aspect of life, we recognise and value the importance of addressing cybersafety in our curriculum. At St Anne’s, we use a variety of resources to complement our SEL program: Inform & Empower, eSmart, ThinkUKnow, the Digital Technologies Hub and the Office of the eSafety Commissioner. Approximately once every two years, we provide parent information sessions hosted by these organisations, to give the carers of our students an opportunity to learn the most up-to-date information and tips to navigate this difficult topic.
We strive to prevent cybersafety issues occuring and to help students realise that their actions online can have long-lasting effects for themselves and others. Cybersafety is explicitly taught every year to our students during Digital Technologies lessons. There are esafety tips shared on our weekly “Radio Announcements”, hosted by our Year 6 students over our PA system. Cybersafety is also integrated across all classes when health and wellbeing topics align with exploring how children access and use technology safely.
